When do most air conditioner emergencies occur? At the most inopportune times.
Right before a dinner party where a dozen friends will soon be knocking at your door.
Or on the hottest day of the year – right as your weekend begins with you planning on spending a lot of it indoors enjoying the cool comfort of your home.
If you’ve been keeping up with your routine maintenance visits from one of our certified technicians, the odds of your air conditioner shutting down are greatly reduced. But that doesn’t mean it won’t occur. What do you do if it happens to you?
Start by looking around your outdoor air conditioning unit
Your air conditioning unit is located outdoors. By being outdoors, it’s subjected to the elements around it. If you have landscaping too close, a branch may have damaged the condenser coils. Or small pebbles or wood chips may have lodged inside an impacted the motor or blades. Whenever you’re out gardening, watering plants, or just enjoying your backyard, take a moment to check out your air conditioner unit to be sure it’s clear from debris.
Check the circuit breakers
We often find air conditioner emergencies are caused by blown circuit breakers. This can be caused by several things. In the summer, you’re home more. You might be using more appliances. And while your air conditioner should be on its own dedicated circuit, you should still check your breaker to ensure none of the circuits have tripped. If everything looks fine, it’s time to call in a professional.
Check the air filter
While your AC technician would have included changing out the air filter as a part of your regular maintenance visit, they work hard to collect debris and pollutants from filtering into your HVAC. If your house has been active, it may be your air filter is in need of replacing.
Have an emergency in your house? Don’t open the windows. Instead, pull the blinds and keep the cooled air in your home for as long as possible. Opening the windows allows in warmed air. Set up fans around your area to help keep you cool. Then give us a call, 24 hours a day, we’re there for all of your needs.
