Here in Denver, most of us use gas forced air heating and cooling systems. In order to move conditioned air from room to room, ductwork is installed throughout the house.
In a typical house, up to 30 percent of the air that moves throughout the system is lost due to leaks, holes, and poorly constructed ducts. That means you’re paying more in utility bills each month than is necessary, and your home isn’t as comfortable as it could be.
How do you know if your ducts aren’t performing as well as they could be?
If any of these conditions apply, it may be time to have a technician come in and evaluate your system. A duct system that is properly sealed can make your home more comfortable, energy efficient, and safer for your family.
Comfort – sealing and insulating ducts will allow conditioned air to flow throughout your home properly.
Safety – during normal operation, gas appliances release combustion gases through their ventilation system. If you have leaky ductwork, your heating and cooling system may cause “backdrafting” which allows these gases to draw back into the living space. Sealing your ducts minimizes this risk.
Indoor Air Quality – fumes from household chemicals, insulation particles, and dust can enter your ducts at any time. As your heating and cooling system turns on and off, these particles are spread throughout your home, aggravating asthma and allergy potential.
Save Money – leaky ducts can reduce heating and cooling efficiency by as much as 20 percent. By sealing your ducts, you can reduce your energy bills and increase the efficiency of your equipment, which often reduces the need for repair work too.
When was the last time you had your ducts sealed? Maybe now is the time.
