While central HVAC systems are how the majority of Coloradoans heat and cool their homes, many homeowners are upgrading to a zone control system for more efficiency.
Central HVAC operates by having ductwork flow throughout the home, ending with registers placed appropriately in every room.
Zone control adds another level of control. Instead of having heat or cooled air flow freely throughout your home, with zone control, you control how much airflow arrives through each register. It gives you the power to heat or cool some rooms more than others, keeping your utility bills as low as possible.
If you choose to use zone control, you still may face problems with how the system operates. Here are some of the most common.
Thermostat - the most common is a malfunctioning thermostat. Each zone in your home will operate through the use of a unique thermostat. If it isn’t working correctly, it might not keep your rooms - zones - properly conditioned. Try rebooting or resetting it by turning it off and back on. Clean the contact point or replacing the batteries may also solve the problem. If all else fails, you might have to replace the thermostat.
Dampers - each zone is controlled by dampers within the duct system to determine how much conditioned air gets through. If these dampers get stuck or aren’t working the way they should, they allow too much or too little air to flow through. Cleaning the dampers might help. They might need lubrication. Keep in mind that your warranty might require professional maintenance to ensure the system is cleaned and maintained the proper way.
Control panel - the zoned system operates through a central control panel. If it malfunctions, the entire system won’t work correctly. If this happens, contact us, and one of our technicians will inspect and repair the system, having you back up and running in no time.
